North Kingstown Mentoring Program
The NK Mentoring Program is offered to students in the North Kingstown School Department.
The primary goal of the NK Mentoring Program is to positively influence young people’s lives through mentoring.
Teachers, guidance counselors and principals recommend students to the program.
Most referrals are based on the premise that the student would benefit personally and
academically from a one-on-one relationship with an adult mentor.
It has been proven across the country that mentoring relationships can improve a child’s self-esteem,
positive feelings toward school, ability to relate to adults and peers and overall academic performance.
Mentors are positive, caring adults who commit to spending one hour per week with a
student for at least one school year. All meetings take place on school grounds during school hours.
Mentors are not tutors, specialists, social workers or parent replacements;
a mentor meets with their mentee simply to be a supportive, positive friend.
New students are continuously referred to the program, so we always have a need for new mentors!
